An Efficient Massively Parallel Rasterization Scheme For a High Performance Graphics System

چکیده
We present in this paper the IMOGENE II system, a massively parallel Multi-SIMD graphics system. This architecture uses a new rasterization scheme combining Object Parallelism and Parallel Virtual Buffers. This scheme leads to a better efficiency than other massively parallel SHvlD systems, and allows a cost-effective, powerful and easily expandabJe system to be designed. The syst.em consists of several SIMD ScanConversion Pipelines each connected to a Multi-Level Virtual Buffer, a Shading Unit computing t.rue Phong Shading, a Virtual Accumulation Frame Buffer for anti-aliasing, and a. classical Frame Buffer.

Realtime Ray Tracing
Realtime ray tracing produces high quality images at interactive frame rates. While the realtime rendering domain is still dominated by raster graphics, realtime ray tracing recently has become much more powerful. This paper addresses the essence of realtime ray tracing: the various acceleration techniques which yield interactive performance, how coherence between rays can be exploited and effe...
متن کاملPiko: A Design Framework for Programmable Graphics Pipelines
We present Piko, a framework for designing, optimizing, and retargeting implementations of graphics pipelines on multiple architectures. Piko programmers express a graphics pipeline by organizing the computation within each stage into spatial bins and specifying a scheduling preference for these bins. Our compiler, Pikoc, compiles this input into an optimized implementation targeted to a massiv...
متن کاملAdaptive Parallel Rendering on Multiprocessors and Workstation Clusters
This paper presents the design and performance of a new parallel graphics renderer for 3-D images. This renderer is based on an adaptive supersampling approach that works for time/space-efficient execution on two classes of parallel computers. Our rendering scheme takes sub-pixel supersamples only along polygon edges. This leads to a significant reduction in rendering time and in buffer memory ...
متن کاملSpeeding Up Geospatial Polygon Rasterization on GPGPUs
This study targets at speeding up polygon rasterization in large-scale geospatial datasets by utilizing massively parallel General Purpose Graphics Processing Units (GPGPU) computing for efficient spatial indexing and analysis based on a dynamically integrated vector-raster data model. As the first step, we have designed and implemented a parallelization schema for moderately large polygons usi...
متن کاملPolygon Rendering for Interactive Visualization on Multicomputers
This dissertation identifies a class of parallel polygon rendering algorithms suitable for interactive use on multicomputers, and presents a methodology for designing efficient algorithms within that class. The methodology was used to design a new polygon rendering algorithm that uses the frame-to-frame coherence of the screen image to evenly partition the rasterization at reasonable cost. An i...
